Teachers Training Material


The EduCardia Teachers Training material includes the definition, design and documentation of the material that aims to support the specialization of teachers in Emotional Intelligence with special focus on the promotion of emotional education within the classrooms. 

The provided material includes detailed information of the EmoSocio Emotional Intelligence (EI) model, guidelines on how to use the EduCardia digital toolkit and on how to apply the EduCardia Social and Emotional Learning (SEL) activities in the classroom. The material is in diverse formats including presentations, detailed documentation in the format of a handbook, videos and on-line workshops, where the teachers are trained prior to the application of the SEL activities to the selected target groups.  

The objective is on one hand to provide training to the teachers that will be engaged into assessment processes within EduCardia, as well as to make the produced material openly available to be adopted by any interested party. The SEL training material for teachers is designed and organized based on the scales of the EmoSocio Model.

Following, you may find the structure of the Teachers Training Course including the provided material. The teachers are encouraged to study it carefully before implementing both the assessment and the emotional training into their classes.

Session #1 title: Introduction to  Social and Emotional Learning (SEL) – Duration (60 minutes)
Purpose:  
Familiarization with the emotions, feelings and the affective phenomena. Introduction to the significant role of Social and Emotional Learning to the emotional development in children.
Operational objectives: 
At the end of the training the trainees will: 
● be aware of the emotions, feelings and the affective phenomena vocabulary; 
● be aware of the conceptual framework of emotional education; 
● be aware of the stages of emotional development in children.
Contents: 
● Emotional competencies, social competencies, theoretical models of socio-emotional  learning; 
● Specifics of social and emotional development of children and adolescents; 
● Educational practices for the development of socio-emotional competencies.

Session #2 title: Research Results  that focus on the positive impact of SEL – Duration (15 minutes)
Purpose:  
To detail the main positive outcomes associated with the strengthening of social and emotional competencies of students in their daily life, based on existing research results.
Operational objectives: 
At the end of the training the trainees will: 
● be aware of  the positive impact of the application of Social and Emotional learning interventions according to the scientific literature
Contents: 
● Presentation of some research results that prove the positive impact of the SEL in many aspects of the emotional, social and academic skills of the students.

Session #3 title: The EmoSocio Model  (Emo, Socio, CEI) – Duration (45 minutes)
Purpose:  
To promote and explain the Emosocio model with all its psychometric tools (Emotional, Collective and  Social constructs)
Operational objectives: 
At the end of the training the trainees will: 
● be aware of the competencies represented by the EmoSocio model 
● understand the importance of developing the competencies of the EmoSocio model

Session #4 title: The EmoSocio Model  adapted to specific target age groups – Duration (30 minutes)
Purpose:  
To promote and explain how the Emosocio model with all its psychometric tools (Emotional, Collective and  Social constructs) are adapted for specific target age groups (children and adolescents)
Operational objectives: 
At the end of the course, learners will be able to know the elements of the EmoSocio model  according to the considered target age group (6-8; 9-12; 13-18 years old)

● EmoSocio- 6-8 years old – general description 
● EmoSocio– 9-12 years old – general description

Session #5 title: Assessment of socio-emotional competencies of teachers by using EmoSociograms – Duration (90 minutes)
Purpose:  
Use of the EmoSociograms psychometric tool by the teachers to understand and reflect on their own emotional and social profile.
Operational objectives: 
At the end of the course, learners will be able to understand the usefulness of  assessing their own emotional and social competences  by using the EmoSociograms psychometric tool. This session is provided in the form of a laboratory.
Contents: 
Usage of the emosociograms psychometric tool on behalf of the teachers.
Collection of feedback about their experience with the EmoSocio model.
Reflection on their own results (optional).

Session #6 title: The EduCardia  assessment methodology – Duration (30 minutes)
Purpose:  
To present the assessment methodology developed by EduCardia.
Operational objectives: 
At the end of the course, learners will be able: 
● be aware of the EduCardia methodology;
Contents: 
● Detailed presentation of each one and every step of the EduCardia Methodology

Session #7 title: EduCardia Tools  usage (EmoSociograms &  Activities Repository) – Duration (90 minutes)
Purpose:  
To use the Emosociograms platform and explore the repository of the proposed project activities
Operational objectives: 
At the end of the course, learners will be able: 
● to register to the EmoSociograms Psychometric Tool; 
● to create the classroom/group and populate it with the students’ data; 
● to create a set of tests (questionnaires) to be filled in by the students; 
● to invite the students to fill in the tests (questionnaires); 
● to monitor the process, provide guidance and check that all students have replied;
● to examine the results.

Furthermore, learners will be able:
● to register to the EduCardia SEL activities repository; 
● explore the existing activities
● filter the activities
● rate and put comments on existing activities
● select their favorite activities and plan their emotional training plan

Session #8 title: Teachers professional competencies development – Duration (45 minutes)
Purpose:  
Facilitate the development of knowledge and skills for teachers in order to raise the teachers’ awareness  related to their role as SEL facilitators.
Operational objectives:
● The teachers are invited to reflect upon their own professional skills involved in teaching SEL activities
Contents: 
● Active listening in the classroom (definition, characteristics, benefits, methods of  assessment and development of active listening skills) 
● Assertive communication in the classroom (definition, characteristics, benefits, methods of  assessment and development of assertive communication) 
● Giving effective feedback (definition, characteristics, benefits, methods of giving effective  feedback) 
● Observational attitude (definition, characteristics, practical exercises, the role of emotion  regulation)

Session #9 title: Emotional competencies training program for students with examples of SEL activities – Duration (120 minutes)
Purpose:
To develop teachers’ knowledge and skills to provide relevant social-emotional learning experiences in the classroom by using the EduCardia activities repository.
Operational objectives: 
● to select appropriate activities according to the needs of the class; 
● to apply practical activities proposed by the Educardia project to develop social-emotional skills;
Contents: 
● Theoretical model and methodology (EmoSocio Model, SAFE framework, Experiential  Learning & 4MAT Learning Cycle Model, Didactic strategies) 
● Examples of activities for age groups 6-8 years, 9-12 years, 13-18 years (practical exercises  and applications using the EduCardia activities repository)
